So much love for the Haakaa breast pump
If you've been following myself on insta-stories, you would have seen me jumping up & down with excitement for the Haakaa breast pump.
I welcome this simple, sleek, but oh so effective little device with open arms to the milk & cookies by Jewels family- it will take your breastfeeding experience to the next level.
Why the Haakaa Jewels I hear you ask... firstly it's simple. 1 single, sleek piece of soft, flexible food grade silicone. It's so comfortable to use- even the most sensitive breasts will feel comfortable using this.
No set up assembly required, easy to clean, easy to use.
The Haakaa breast pump is a simple way to collect breastmilk for storage in your freezer.
For Mama's who have a strong let down reflex when feeding their bub.. it can also be a way to collect breastmilk that would have otherwise just leaked all over their breastpad.
The key to using the haakaa is to stimulate the let down feeling prior to attempting to attach it to your breast.
Most Mama's use it in tandem whilst feeding their baby. If this is how you use yours- then your let down feeling should already be initiated.
If you're not currently feeding your bub, getting yourself comfortable, relaxed, using a warm cloth over your breast & thinking about your baby will help create that feeling.
TIPS TO HELP ATTACH THE HAAKAA
The ideal set up should feel comfotable- with the haakaa completely sealed on the areola/breast. Once their is suction on the breast, the suction should draw the breast milk out with no need to touch it once in place.
There are a few different methods to get a good attachment and it may take a little bit of practice to find what method works easiest for you.
- Cover the nipple/breast with the haakaa pump and squeeze the base to create suction on your skin (reposition if needed, adjust etc.. until you have a good suction that feels comfortable... and keep in mind the key tip about creating that let down feeling)
- Alternatively some Mama's find it easier to roll the circular silicone back, attach the haakaa with suction by squeezing the base and then roll it back onto the breast.
Use the flower stopper to seal the haakaa after use for storage in fridge & prevent spillage.
According to the Australian Breastfeeding Association, breastmilk should be stored at the back of the fridge for a maximum of 72hrs or 3 months in the freezer.
